Basic Sewing - Make a Skirt

If you want to make a skirt and don't know where to begin, then this is the course for you. This course will teach you how to make a simple straight and a longer A line skirt. The course is aimed at beginners or at those that have attended the Basic Sewing Course or have basic sewing skills.
During the course you will make samples of techniques used to make a simple straight skirt. You will explore how to master the following techniques:
- How to select a patter and fabrics and how to read and use commercial patterns
- How to sew darts and shape fabric to fit around a body which includes waist darts
- Inserting zips into seams
- Vent splits
- Application waist facings or waist bands
- Adding closures, buttons, snaps and hooks and eyes.
This course is held on Thursdays 15th, 22nd and 29th August 10-1.
You will need to buy your fabric and pattern - for non-stretch fabric cottons and woven fabrics only for view A and D from New Look pattern 6492. You will be advised on how much fabric to bring in depending on skirt length. You will make at least 2 of the skirts from this pattern.
Either attended the Basic Sewing Course or have a basic knowledge of sewing.
At the end of this course you will have gained the confidence to make basic straight skirts using patterns.
