Summary
This course is for individuals wishing to develop higher-level professional skills relevant to the construction and build environment sector.
“The purpose of BTEC Higher Nationals in Construction and The Built Environment is to develop students as professional, self-reflecting individuals able to meet the demands of employers in the construction and the built environment sector and adapt to a constantly changing world. The qualifications aim to widen access to higher education and enhance the career prospects of those who undertake them.”
“The BTEC Higher National Diploma (HND) is a Level 4 and Level 5 qualification made up of 240 credits.”
This programme incorporates a combination of traditional classroom teaching, open learning and research based experiential learning, laboratory experiments and demonstrations, use of surveying equipment, industry standard IT applications and group activities. Many assignments are based around students' own work experiences.
The course comprises mandatory and optional units.

Students will complete additional modules selected by the course team (2 at Level 4 and 3 at Level 5)

Students will normally attend college for one day per week for three years

Entry Requirements
You will need GCSE English and Mathematics (grade A-C or grade four and above) AND
One of the following: • BTEC National Certificate or Diploma in construction or civil engineering • 2 relevant A Levels plus 4 GCSEs (Either grade A-C or grade four and above), including English and Mathematics • Access course with industrial experience • Extended Diploma in CBE. Minimum grades apply, please ask for details.
Mature students with a relevant industrial background may also be considered subject to interview.
Applications from students whose first language is not English are welcome. For International students we require evidence of proficiency in English (including writing, speaking, listening and reading), the required minimum is: IELTS Academic (SELT) 6.0 overall (minimum 5.5 in all components). Assessment
Assessment is by a mix of assignments, project work and some exams.
Progression
This programme is widely recognised by employers and professional bodies and can provide pathways to both additional education and membership of relevant professional bodies.

The course will equip students with the skills and knowledge needed for a variety of interesting and rewarding careers in construction.

£750 per 15 credits plus a registration fee.
