BTEC HNC in Engineering (Electrical Engineering)

This course is for individuals wishing to develop higher-level professional skills relevant to the Electrical and Electronic engineering sectors.
The purpose of Higher Nationals in Electrical and Electronic Engineering is to develop students as professional, self-reflecting individuals who are able to meet the demands of employers in the rapidly evolving engineering sector and adapt to a constantly changing world. The qualifications also aim to widen access to higher education and enhance the career prospects of those who undertake them.
The Higher National Certificate (HNC) is a Level 4 qualification made up of 120 credits.
The programme team uses a combination of traditional classroom teaching, open learning and research-based experiential learning, laboratory experiments and demonstrations, industry standard IT applications and group activities.
The course comprises of mandatory and additional units.
The mandatory units are:
Managing a Professional Engineering Project
Electrical and Electronic Principles.
The course team have selected the following additional units:
Automation, Robotics and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)
Quality and Process Improvement

Students will normally attend college one day per week for one and a half years.

Applicants should have one of the following: • BTEC National Certificate • Diploma in Electrical Engineering • One A level in either Mathematics or Physics plus four GCSEs at either grade A*-C or grade four and above • Access programmes • GNVQ Advanced Level in Engineering • Advanced Diploma in Engineering Minimum grades apply, please ask for details. The HNC qualifications offered from September 2017 are new versions introduced by BTEC. As a result, anyone wanting to accredit prior learning is advised to discuss this at interview. Applications from students whose first language is not English are welcome. For International students we require evidence of proficiency in English (including writing, speaking, listening and reading), the required minimum is: IELTS Academic (SELT) 6.0 overall (minimum 5.5 in all components). Assessments can be a mixture of assignments, exams or project work.
The BTEC (Pearson) HNC programme is widely recognised by employers and professional bodies. You may be able to progress onto an HND (Higher National Diploma) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at City College Norwich (subject to sufficient numbers of students requesting to progress from their HNC qualification with us) or at other providers of higher national qualifications.
The course will equip you with the skills and knowledge needed for a variety of interesting and rewarding careers in engineering.
£750 per 15 credits plus a registration fee.
