This Apprenticeship is ideal for developing skills and knowledge whilst working within the fast-paced world of Engineering. This qualification offers the unique opportunity to earn and learn in this sector. Real work experience, which is personalised to each learner’s aspirations and interests, is integrated into the programme.
To achieve this Apprenticeship the apprentice must obtain all mandatory units and additional optional units.

- Health and Safety in the Engineering Workplace (10 credits)
- Communications for Engineering Technicians (10 credits)
- Engineering Project (20 credits)
- Mathematics for Engineering Technicians (10 credits)
- Engineering Drawing
- Quality Control
- Non-Destructive Testing
- Computer Control Programming
- Integrated Business Operational Support
- Engineering Software Development
You will complete Level 3 Engineering Technical Support as part of this Apprenticeship.
- This Apprenticeship will involve college attendance and off the job training.
- You will also develop your knowledge, skills and behaviours.
- You need to have an employer to support your Apprenticeship and be employed in a relevant job role.
- The typical length of this Apprenticeship course is 24-42 months.

Hands on learning
We work closely with employers to deliver training both on and off the job. In most cases, you’ll come into college one day a week, as well as getting planned training and development with a mentor in the workplace
Ideally applicants will hold five GCSEs including English and Maths at grade D or higher. Apprenticeships are open to anyone over the age of 16, whether they have just left school or have been working for years. Applicants should not take part in full-time education.
In order to enrol onto an Apprenticeship, you need to be employed in a relevant job role and undertake a range of tasks which would enable you to complete the Apprenticeship qualification.
The Level 3 Engineering Technical Support is built up of a framework and for the full Apprenticeship, candidates will complete:
- EAL Level 3 NVQ Extended Diploma in Engineering Technical Support (QCF)
- Pearson BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Operations and Maintenance Engineering (QCF)
- City & Guilds Level 2 Award in Functional Skills Mathematics
- City & Guilds Level 2 Award in Functional Skills English
- City & Guilds Level 2 Award in Functional Skills ICT
You will learn about your rights and responsibilities as an employee and those of the employer with guidance from your work based assessor.
Training and assessments are delivered in the workplace and in college. Apprentices will be required to attend college-based sessions as part of their training, whilst also completing off-the-job training in the workplace. You will also complete assessments and observations in the workplace.
Assessment is via a variety of methods, including:
- Case studies
- Practical assessments
Progression onto a Higher Apprenticeship or a higher level of study or employment.
Career or academic progression may include continuation, development or promotion at work or within this sector and progression into higher education.
Apprenticeship course fees are subject to the age of the apprentice, the payroll of the employer and the number of employees. Course fees are paid by the employer and not the apprentice. Employers who take on an apprentice aged between 16-18 years old, or with an Educational Health Care Plan, will receive an Incentive Payment to help cover their costs.
