GCSE maths is a 1 year course. The specification for this course is Edexcel GCSE Mathematics A (Linear), this means that there are two exams at the end of the year in June. The classes are 3 hours long and once a week, available day and evening.
This part time course will give students confidence and a positive attitude towards maths. It will also enable students to recognise the importance of Maths in their own lives and society. It could also provide a vital stepping stone to Higher Education.
You will cover a range of topics for instance general arithmetic, algebra, shape and space and data handling.
It is possible to take GCSE Maths alongside another course such as Access to Higher Education.
The course is run over one lesson per week for 30 weeks.
Applicants should be working at level 1/2 after an initial assessment has been completed at interview. Those who are not currently working at this level with be encouraged to take a functional skills maths course part time first.
You will sit two exams which are externally assessed at the end of the course in June.
Students may go on to one of many university courses which require GCSE maths at A-C grade. Many vocational course also have this requirement.
GCSE maths is very useful in getting started in a wide variety of careers.
