Functional Skills in English or Maths
Functional Skills in English or Maths are part time courses for students over 19.
If you want to develop your English or Maths but aren't ready for GCSEs yet then Functional Skills are a good starting point. The qualification is recognised by colleges and employers and some universities accept Functional Skills instead of GCSEs.
The courses is offered in the daytime and evening, and will be 2.5 hours per week.
Applicants will have to complete an assessment online (achieving at least 65% on an Entry Level 3 diagnostic assessment) before places are offered and it is usually on a first come first served basis.
Unlike GCSEs you are able to take your test when you are ready and at the level that suits you. The tests are online or paper based.
Students may go on to GCSE or other higher level study.
The Functional Skills qualification is recognised by an increasing number of employers and could be useful in a wide variety of career choices.
