Aviation Academy

New Aviation Academy coming soon to Norwich

A new state of the art Aviation Academy is coming to Norwich. It will be located close to the airport terminal and will be equipped to provide training to 200-300 students at any given time. Engineering programmes for 16-18 year olds, that will eventually be delivered in the academy, have already started, from September 2014, at City College Norwich. The aim being to prepare either for further or higher education, or higher apprenticeships at the Academy.

The Engineering delivery will be entirely work-based and will incorporate an innovative work-based degree; BSc(Hons) Professional Aviation Engineering Practice subject to approved validation by University of East Anglia and delivered by City College Norwich in partnership with KLM UK Engineering. This has been developed with Aviation Skills Partnership’s unique work-based degree framework. The cabin crew and airport operations training programmes are industry-designed to create work-ready people for local, national and international roles. As a result the academy will attract local, national and international students.

The plans, originally unveiled in September 2013, are to create an Aviation Academy at Norwich Airport to provide a centre of excellence for education and skills training, delivered in partnership with the region’s employers, education groups and local authorities.

The Academy will be the first in the country to create a ‘real world’ learning environment that includes full size, working aircraft. It will focus on offering a broad education and skills training in aviation and will raise the standards of learning using innovative teaching techniques.
