Summary

Functional Skills in Maths is a part time course for students over 19. If you want to develop your Maths skills but aren't ready for GCSEs yet then Functional Skills is a good starting point. We offer both Entry Level and Level 1 Maths Functional Skills qualifications, all of which help students to develop a range of basic calculation skills and enhance their problem-solving abilities. The qualification is recognised by colleges and employers and some universities accept Functional Skills instead of GCSEs. The course is offered on a day or evening basis and the classes are usually 2 1/2 hours long.

Entry Requirements

Applicants will have to complete an assessment online before places are offered and it is usually on a first come first served basis, this will determine the Functional Skills level students are placed upon.

Assessment

Unlike GCSEs you are able to take your test when you are ready and at the level that suits you. The tests are online or paper based.

Progression

Students may go on to higher levels in Functional Skills, GCSE or other higher level study.

Career Progression

The Functional Skills qualification is recognised by an increasing number of employers and could be useful in a wide variety of career choices. The course is about developing essential skills of recognising problems, pursuing solutions, and communicating explanations, all of which are highly sought after in the workplace.
