Summary
The FdA Early Years provides students with a wide range of theoretical perspectives in the field of early years education and related careers working with young children, aged 0 - 7 years, allied to a focus on professional practice.
It is a sector-endorsed practice award, as recognised by SEFDEY (Sector Endorsed Foundation Degrees Early Years) and has Early Years Educator status.
Students are encouraged to develop into reflective practitioners, who can combine work-based practice with strong theoretical knowledge.
Level 4 (First Year) modules include The Developing Child, Understanding Childhood, Inclusion & Equality in the Early Years, Play and Children’s Spaces, as well as modules covering specific Higher Learning Skills, and Employability.
Level 5 (Second Year) modules include Safeguarding Children in a Multi-Agency Context; Digital Childhood; Learning and Teaching; Health & Wellbeing in the Early Years; as well as a specific Research Skills module in which students evaluate research methods, in an early years context, and analyse the ethical issues which can arise.
Employability skills, such as communication, team work, IT skills, innovation and reflection are emphasised throughout the course. Sector knowledge around safeguarding, accountability and personalisation are also promoted.

Entry Requirements
Applicants should have sufficient and appropriate prior experience in childcare and an appropriate level 3 qualification and also show the potential for successful study at HE level, commitment to study and work in the sector and commitment to the work-experience component. Applicants with appropriate prior experience in childcare, but who do not hold an appropriate level 3 qualification, may also be considered.
Successful applicants will need to be working or volunteering in an early years' setting for the duration of the course to meet the requirements of the SEFDEY (and will already be in possession of a valid DBS).
Applications from students whose first language is not English are welcome. For International students we require evidence of proficiency in English (including writing, speaking, listening and reading), the required minimum is: IELTS Academic (SELT) 6.0 overall (minimum 5.5 in all components). Assessment
A rich and varied range of assessment methods include written assignments, presentations, portfolios and work-based projects.
Progression
In terms of academic progression, Students completing the programme can progress onto our BA (Hons) Childhood Studies Top Up, or other related programmes.
Career Progression
Graduates from this programme can expect to access a wide variety of careers, including management of early years settings, healthcare, social care and family support work. Completion of Top Up programmes also allow graduates to apply for Initial Teacher Training or relevant postgraduate programmes.

For international students (students from outside of the UK), fees are set at £12,000 per year
