Summary

This course is divided into two routes from which a student will choose to specialise in one. The two options are Site Carpentry or Bench Joinery.

The specialist Site Carpentry pathway will cover the following skills:

Carry out first fix flooring and roofing
Carry out second fixing operations
Carry out first fix roofing and stairs
Carry out second fixing double doors and mouldings
Set up and use fixed and transportable machinery
The specialist Bench Joinery pathway will cover:

Set up and use fixed and transportable machinery
Manufacture shaped doors and frames
Manufacture stairs with turns
Good English and maths skills are essential for most jobs and courses you will progress onto. The Government has made it a priority for students to improve these skills and your course programme will reflect this key aim. Depending on your grades when you start your course, you could either study Functional Skills or GCSEs alongside the other parts of your course programme. Entry Requirements

Successful completion of the Carpentry and Joinery Diploma Level 2 with a good attendance and behaviour record and reference from the course leader.

Assessment

Assessment takes a variety of forms including multiple choice tests and practical assignments.

Progression

After the successful completion of the course you could progress onto employment or an apprenticeship to study towards an NVQ Level 3 in Wood Occupations.

Fees

If you are a UK or home- fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course, tuition fees are free. If you are aged 19 years and over please contact the Advice Shop. You will need to provide their own overalls, protective footwear and stationary.
