Entrepreneur of the Year Challenge

The Entrepreneur of the Year Challenge is a fantastic opportunity for you to think about starting a business, working on your ideas and learning the practical steps to make it happen. Ex-CCN student Kieran Miles is running the Challenge which is open to students from across the college. Kieran will help you to build a business idea and develop it over the year to make a business plan that will then be pitched to a panel of judges in June.

Drug and Alcohol Awareness Week

Stop Smoking Group: The Matthew Project has a new Stop Smoking Worker for young people who will be running a Stop Smoking Group here at City College Norwich from January in the Wellbeing Zone.  The group will meet to undertake a 4 week programme to stop smoking for good.  Students can meet new people and support each other to successfully quit.  Please can you advertise this FREE group to your students?  If they have any questions regarding the group, they can email wellbeing@ccn.ac.uk or pop into the Advice Shop to speak to Vicki

Computer Security Day

This tutorial is available for both staff and students to attend.  It aims to raise awareness of online profiles and social networking, showing exactly how much information is being shared with the world.  The tutorial will show you how to change privacy settings on sites like Facebook and Twitter so that you keep safe online.  Drop-in sessions will be run on the hour from 10am – 3pm on Tuesday 30th November in the Wellbeing Zone.

First Aid Course

We will be running another enrichment first aid course for students to sign up to in April. The course will be running on 14th and 21st April from 4pm-6pm. Students must attend both sessions in order to gain a Red Cross certificate in Life Emergency Support. Both sessions will be running in B33 in the Norwich Building on the Main Campus. The course covers treatment of unconscious casualties and those with major injuries and teaches students CPR.

Drive iQ

Road Safety Week 2010 is fast approaching, but what will you be doing to promote or enhance existing road safety at Norwich City College?

Drive iQ represents the latest tool in ensuring that students learn to be safe and responsible road users, both passengers and drivers.

Drive iQ is an online application allowing students to log on and access the UK’s best theory and hazard perception preparation facility at home or at school or college COMPLETELY FREE OF CHARGE!

New Wellbeing Adviser

Lesley Blackwell is the new Student Wellbeing Adviser and is based in the Wellbeing Zone (at the back of the Information Store) Mondays to Thursday 10.30am-2pm. Lesley is here to provide information and advice to students on where they can find support to help improve their wellbeing.  This can be problems with general and sexual health, depression, anxiety, bullying, drug/alcohol problems and giving up smoking to housing, benefits, money matters and career advice.

C-Card Fridays AND Wednesdays!

The Enrichment Team have been running a C-Card Clinic every Friday afternoon for the last few months which has proved very popular! We have now decided to run an extra clinic every Wednesday as well, which will be staffed by both male and female Enrichment Coordinators. Both C-Card clinics will now run from 12:30-2:30pm in the Wellbeing Zone at the back of the Information Store.

Are you interested in steering the direction of the new Wellbeing Zone in the Information Store? Would you like to help CCN students to make better choices for their mental and physical health? Then why not join the Wellbeing Zone Committee! The group will be made up of staff and students and will meet roughly half termly to decide how best to use the Wellbeing Zone space, the services that students want to see in there and how successful the current services are.

GROUP CIRCUIT TRAINING:
Every Monday at 17:00 Matt Philpot is running group circuit training classes in classrooms A3 & A3a for both staff and students, suited for all ages and levels of fitness. First session is FREE then £3. Classes last one hour and are a fun way to get fit and tone up.

HPV Immunisations

For girls aged 16 – 18 years old that haven’t completed the course of 3 injections, there will be some clinics available at locations across the county for you to receive the final parts of the vaccination.
