City College Norwich plumbing student Michael Nock was one of four students to be presented with an award by the Norfolk Branch of the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (CIPHE) on 14th July. The annual awards are for students who, in the opinion of their tutors, have made "outstanding achievements in plumbing studies" and recognise exceptional talent in their chosen profession.
The School of Technology student and the other award winners were presented with CIPHE trophies, a signed certificate, a year's free trainee membership of the Institute, a copy of the internationally recognised Plumbing Engineering Services Design Guide worth £40 and a voucher for £50, sponsored by plumbing merchants PTS.
Michael Nock, 17, who completed a Level 1 Basic Plumbing Certificate with City College Norwich said: “I was really pleased to have been chosen for this award. The course has been really good and the tutors have been really supportive and helpful.” Michael discovered his interest in plumbing through a Young Apprenticeship in Construction, which gave him the opportunity to try his hand at a different construction crafts whilst attending college for one day a week during years 10 and 11 at school. He plans to continue developing his plumbing skills by progressing on to the next level, ideally through an Apprenticeship.
Ian Mitchell, Programme Manager, School of Technology, said: "Michael is a dedicated student who has worked very hard this year and really deserves this award. He has made great progress, which has included representing the college in the Norfolk and Waveney Building Apprentices Competition."
