Million Makers Auction Giant Gingerbread House
Students from the Hotel School at City College Norwich have been getting creative making a giant gingerbread house which is being auctioned for charity this week. The house is just over a metre tall and 125cm in length and has been made from scratch by students on the Diploma in Professional Cookery from the gingerbread roof tiles down to the boiled sweets and decorations.
Over 120 individual pieces of handmade gingerbread have gone into this piece of art with decorations including liquorice allsorts, shortbread, jelly sweets, chocolate logs, snow icing and a chocolate Santa standing at the door.
Although everything is hand made from edible products we don’t suggest the winning bidder eats this house. It will, however, keep for weeks in a warm, dry space and will make an eye catching centre piece to any Christmas display. It smells amazing and will certainly add a unique flavour to any Christmas celebrations.
All proceeds from this Auction will go to the Princes Trust Million Makers Team, a group of staff and students from City College Norwich aiming to raise £10k for the Prince’s Trust by January 2010. Teams from across the country are raising as much as they can for the Prince’s Trust, as part of a national campaign to raise £1 million for the charity whose work provides practical and financial support to disadvantaged young people locally and nationwide.
The winning bid will help the City College Norwich-based team on their way to the £10k goal. If you would like more information on the events or total funds raised to date by City College Million Makers team, please contact Millionmakers@ccn.ac.uk
