Law Students’ Question Time with Solicitor

Law Students’ Question Time with Solicitor

A-level Law students were given insights into what it is like to be a practicing solicitor when Paul Verrico, Solicitor Advocate with Eversheds, joined them and College Principal Dick Palmer for a lunchtime question and answer session.

Students were given an insight into what life is like as a busy lawyer working for one of the largest law firms in the country.  The session also helped to raise students’ awareness of health and safety legislation and individuals’ legal responsibilities for ensuring their own wellbeing.

A-level Law student Taylor Braithwaite-Paris, 16, who would like to train to become a criminal lawyer, said: “The talk was quite inspiring.  Paul didn’t go to university until he was 25, at Lincoln University, and he then went on to do his law training.  It was good to find out that you don’t necessarily have to go to Oxford or Cambridge in order to become a successful lawyer”.

Paul Verrico specialises in corporate criminal defence as part of the Regulatory group, and his experience covers work related to health and safety, the environment, road traffic and education.

Paul has been a regular visitor to the college in recent years, providing training sessions to Governors, senior managers and other staff on the legal duties of employers and providing updates on recent health and safety prosecutions.

The event on 12th November was organised by the Health and Safety team at the College, with Mr Verrico invited to the College as a guest of the Principal.
