Financial students visit the Square Mile

A group of 20 students from City College Norwich, currently undertaking a BTEC Diploma in Business and Finance level 3, visited London’s financial district recently to develop their understanding of the roles of City institutions.

In collaboration with the National Skills Academy for Financial Services the group visited the offices of Bloomberg, which provides financial software tools such as analytics (the application of computer technology, operational research, and statistics to solve problems in business), equity trading platforms, data services and news to financial companies and organisations around the world.

The students, who were accompanied on the trip by course leader Michela Schiavo, then enjoyed an hour-long hosted tour of their impressive building in Finsbury Square.

They then went on to the Bank of England, where they visited the museum before attending a presentation that helped them to learn more about the Bank from its earliest days to its current role – setting interest rates to keep inflation low, issuing banknotes and working with others to keep the financial system stable.

John Carter of the Skills Academy joined the group throughout the day and commented: “Within the Skills Academy we are actively working with the colleges within our network to help bring financial services to life for their students.  A trip like this will hopefully enthuse them and help them to understand the industry in greater depth.”
