Two talented hockey players who attend City College Norwich, Jessica Shand and Chloe Hobson, have been selected to play for British College Hockey Woman’s National team for 2010. A total of 80 players from across the U.K. attended the national trials last year but Chloe 18 from Thorpe St Andrew and Jessica 18 from Stibbard near Fakenham, made it through to the final 20 against stiff competition.
The pair will now compete in 2 games every month, with Chloe playing Sweeper and Jessica Centre Forward, and they will have the opportunity to play overseas when the team starts international matches in July.
Jessica, who plays for Dereham Hockey Club, is studying a BTEC National Diploma Level 3 in Sport and Exercise and hopes to develop the coaching skills that are vital for her course by learning and taking ideas from her coaches at British Colleges Hockey. Jessica said: “I was really shocked when they told me I had made the final team and I still can’t believe it.”
Chloe is taking a BTEC National Diploma Level 3 in Public Services and has had a passion for Hockey from a young age. She has been playing alongside Jessica at Dereham Hockey Club for 3 seasons but has enjoyed the sport for a lot longer and, last September, travelled to Wales to play for England against the Ulster Scotland and Wales team. Chloe said: “I’m really excited I made the final team, I take hockey really seriously and I think this will be fun”
