Higher Education funding

Full Time Higher Education Students

If you start a full-time HE course at City College you may be eligible for a tuition fee loan, a maintenance loan and a maintenance grant via Student Finance England. For more information about what you may be entitled to and how to apply visit their website:

If you have dependent children you may also be eligible for other help such as a parent’s learning allowance or a child care grant. If you are disabled you may be eligible for a Disabled Student’s Allowance.

The tuition fee for 2010/11 will be £3,290.

CCN Bursaries

In addition, most full time HE students will also be eligible for a CCN Bursary. This is a non means-tested grant of £1000 in your first year, £900 in your second year and £800 in your third year (if applicable) and is awarded in two instalments per year based on the successful completion of each of your semesters. However, if you are receiving a Social Work Bursary or a Teacher Training (DTLLS) Bursary you will not be eligible for this scheme.

Access to Learning Fund (ALF)

The college also has a small, means-tested hardship scheme called the Access to Learning Fund. If your access to Higher Education is affected by financial considerations then we may be able to help. Application forms are available from the Advice Shop after you have started your course.

Part Time Higher Education Students

If you are studying on a part time HE course you may be eligible for a fee grant and a small course grant depending on the size of your household income. For more details about this scheme see:

Fees for part-time Higher Education courses are charged at the rate of £274 per 10 credit module.

Disabled Students' Allowance

If you face extra costs because you have a disability - then you may be able to get help from the Disabled Students' Allowance scheme. See the link below for further information:

Social Work Students

If you study on the full-time or part time Social Work BA degree course then you may be eligible for a bursary from the NHS. For more information see the following website:

Diploma of Teaching in the Lifelong learning Sector (DTLLS)

If you undertake this course full time, then you may be eligible for a shortage subject bursary of up to £7,000.

Council Tax Exemption

If you study full-time, the college can provide you with a council tax exemption certificate which you can pass to your local authority.

Emergency Loan Fund

If your payments from Student Finance England are delayed, then the college may be able to offer you an emergency loan.
