Wood Occupations Level 2 Craft Diploma Site Carpentry (Part Time)

Summary: 

The course is designed preferably for those working in the Construction Industry, who wish to gain the knowledge and practical skills required to take the first steps towards becoming a site carpenter.

Course Length: 
Two years
Course Schedule: 
One and a half days per week
Entry Requirements: 

Level 1 Wood Occupations Craft Diploma and a basic level of Literacy and Numeracy broadly equivalent to GCSE Grade D.

You should be able to demonstrate an interest in the craft of site carpentry and have a willingness to succeed.  All students will be invited to an advisory interview prior to joining the course.

Assessment: 

Practical and theory tests.
Gola online test.

Career Progression: 

If you are currently employed within the site carpentry industry, you may continue your studies and gain an NVQ2, needing only portfolio building and site visits to ensure that you have covered all the criteria required by the NVQ awarding body.

Full Description: 

There are eight units - 3 core units and 5 trade specific units.

Core Units

  • Safe working practices 1
  • Information, quantities and communication with others 2
  • Construction technology 2

Trade Specific Units

  • First fixing operations
  • Second fixing operations
  • Erecting structural carcassing
  • Carrying out maintenance
  • Setting up and operating a circular saw
