Phoenix Plus GCSE – A one year course with the opportunity to study up to five GCSEs. A great way to gain qualifications for any number of further and higher education courses, or progression to employment.
The course is for students who are aged 16 – 19 from wide and varying backgrounds. Students applying to Phoenix Plus may have interrupted secondary education, have specific learning differences which have formed barriers to achieving. Other students may simply like to re-take subjects in order to improve grades or obtain extra GCSEs to be able to access further courses.
Through completing the Phoenix Plus programme you can access any number of progression routes; either AS levels, vocational courses or employment.
Applying for Phoenix Plus courses
To apply for any of these courses a college application form for Phoenix Plus should be completed specifying which route you are interested in. The application form should be sent to the admissions office at City College Norwich. You will be invited to attend an interview with one of the Phoenix Plus team. If you are unsure which route to take we will be able to give you some more information and guidance.
Applicants will be asked to complete an initial assessment in English and Maths and will be invited onto a Flying Starts week prior to their acceptance on the course.
Course Length:One year
GCSE - Up to 5 days per week
Phoenix Plus students have successfully accessed A-Levels and various further education courses before accessing higher education. A great number of students progress on to vocational courses across the college, either at level 2 or level 3.
Gaining GCSEs has also allowed students to gain employment and apprenticeships.
GCSEs on Phoenix Plus
Successful applicants will be able to take between 3 and 5 GCSEs over 1 year. Tutors will discuss the most appropriate route of learning with students. Acceptance on the programme will depend on a skills assessment and interview.
The course is designed to move students on to their next step in well-supported and engaging surroundings. Students are supported and encouraged by a small, dedicated team of lecturers, comprehensive student support in and out of sessions, alongside an effective pastoral team.
We offer ten GCSE subjects designed to meet the academic requirements of further education and delivered in a professional and mature environment.
- English Language
- Science/Double Science
- General Studies
- Media Studies
As each GCSE is taken in 1 year, students taking 3 or 4 GCSEs will not have time to work towards other qualifications.
ESOL L1 or 2 qualification is available alongside a preliminary GCSE English course with the possibility of progressing to a full GCSE course in a subsequent year.
Our aim is to help you meet the targets you have set yourself and we will support you through the course in any way we can.
