This popular course is ideal if you have already decided to pursue a career in the media, and/or wish to progress to higher education vocational qualifications such as Foundation or Honours degrees in media related areas.
You will need to have the following: normally be at least 16 years old, and have four GCSEs at grades A* - C including English Language, or a GNVQ Intermediate qualification at Merit level, or a BTEC First Diploma at Merit level in a relevant area.
Assessment may take the form of practical work, essays, reports, presentations and group projects.
The course has a good mix of practical and theoretical work which will prepare you for a choice of interesting and worthwhile careers in, for example, video and film production, radio, sound recording and television broadcasting. It is also an entry qualification for a wide range of higher education courses, including Foundation degrees and degrees
The course is made up of eighteen units. All eighteen units have to be studied and all assignments attempted. You will study the following eighteen units: Research Techniques; Pre-Production Techniques; Production Management; Working to a Brief; Critical Approaches to Media Products; Understanding the Media; Film & Video Editing Techniques; Single Camera Techniques; Multi-Camera Techniques; Writing for Television and Video; Film Studies; Social Action & Community Media Production; Animation Production; Interview Techniques; Speech Package Production; Digital Graphics for Print; Photography & Photographic Practice; Web Authoring. You will also be assessed for the Functional Skills.
