Summary: 

This is the required qualification for anyone who wishes to teach in the learning and skills sector.  it is the Initial Teacher Training Award designed to meet the new standards development by the Sector skills council, LLUK (Lifelong learning UK).

Entry Requirements: 

Successful applicants will hold an appropriate qualification in the subject they propose to teach eg degree, professional qualification, HND/HNC or other advanced level qualification and Level 2 qualifications in Literacy and Numeracy.  On the programme a minimum of 150 hours of teaching will be undertaken as a placement arrangement, this will involve engaging in the full role of the teacher as defined by LLUK.

Module 3 - Theories and Principles of Learning and Assessment

Module 4 - Communication and Supporting Students in the Learning Environment

Assessed by: Resource Presentation and Professional Discussion

Module 5 - Subject Specific Professional Practice part One

Assessed by: Portfolio of evidence including 3 observations with critical reflections and action plans

Module 6 - Curriculum and Quality Issues in the Lifelong Learning Sector

Assessed by: Curriculum Development Project and Poster Presentation

Module 7 - Supporting Practice through Research

Assessed by: Research report and seminar presentation

Module 8 - subject Specific Professional Practice Part Two

Assessed by: Portfolio of evidence including 4 observations with critical reflections and action plans

Academic Progression: 

It is possible to progress to a degree such as the BA Hons Inclusive Practice in Education or a higher degree eg MA Learning and Teaching.  When teaching in the sector those achieving the DTLLS (Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector) should engage in professional formation and acquire QTLS (Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills) through the IfL (Institute for Learning).

Full Description: 

This course enables trainee teachers to exlore practice and theory relating to teaching in the learning and skills sector, including assessment, evaluation, managing learner behaviour and curriculum issues.

 

Throughout the course, literacy, numberacy and ICT skills are included as part of the award.
