Summary:
This programme provides students with the opportunity to gain skills and knowledge in areas of digital arts, interactive media, animation, design and creative practice. The course is particularly appropriate for school leavers who have an interest in both arts and computing.
The course develops student’s creativity through a range of media, including 2d and 3d animation through stop motion, drawing, photography, and other software applications for progression to motion graphics and game development. An innovative and responsive curriculum encourages creativity, giving you the skillset to progress to employment or further study at higher education level.
You will be taught in our digital Mac studio, have access to our TV studio and audio/visual editing suites and our traditional art studios and workshops.
The qualification achieved will be equivalent to 3 A levels
Entry Requirements:
Four GCSEs at Grade C or above, including English or equivalent, an GCSE or equivalent in Art, Graphics, Media or other related creative discipline. A portfolio of creative work or sketchbook will be required for interview.
Assessment:
Assessment will be undertaken through a variety of assessment methods including completion of assignments (course work), presentations, group critiques/discussion, and presentation of final outcomes through web, exhibition or other. You will achieve either a Pass, Merit or Distinction for each unit and the overall grade for the course will be assessed on the level of achievement in all units. If you perform exceptionally throughout the course you will be awarded a Distinction.
Academic Progression:
To further study, for example, a degree or professional qualification or to employment This is a recognised qualification to progress to HE courses in areas of the visual arts, media and multi-media.
Career Progression:
This course serves as good preparation for employment in areas such as graphic design, games design, web design, advertising, printing, publishing and digital design studies. During the course, you will work on assignments that are linked to industry, through undertaking ‘live’ assignment briefs. There will also be visiting speakers from industry to support your knowledge of the creative industries and progression.

Mandatory units include Visual Recording in Art and Design; Materials, Techniques and Processes in Art and Design; Ideas and Concepts in Art and Design; Communication through Art and Design; Contextual Influences in Art and Design. Additional units will cover a broad range of units which may include Computers in Art and Design; Management of Art and Design Projects; Starting a Small Business; Image Manipulation; 2D and 3D animation; Drawing Concept Art for Computer Games; Digital Imaging; Web Design; Interactive Media Authoring and Design.
