This degree programme offers an exciting opportunity for those within the field of early years care and education to extend their study at HE level. It also provides further career or qualification opportunities for those working with children 0 - 8 years.
You are likely to have completed an approved course at Level 3, for example a National Diploma in Early Years, or you may have undertaken relevant work-experience in an early years care/education-related field. Concepts related to being a reflective practitioner and action research are central to this programme and access to appropriate early years related settings is essential throughout.
You will study: Understanding Children’s Behaviour, Play, Learning and Early Years Curriculum, Children’s Learning and Development, Higher Learning Skills, Reflective Practice, Communication, Language and Literacy, Health Perspectives in the Early Years, Researching Professional Practice, Working with Children and Families, Curriculum Studies, Children’s Learning and Technology, Pedagogical Principles and Practice, Professional Roles, Creative and Expressive Arts in Early Childhood, Special Needs in the Early Years, Contemporary Issues in Early Childhood, Communication and Leadership.
Assignments, presentations, seminars, portfolios
The programme could also open up opportunities for post-graduate study leading to other qualifications, for example in teaching. You can progress to a PGCE course at UEA to enable you to gain QTS, or to a management role in the care sector through current government initiatives.
Graduates from this programme can expect to access a wide variety of careers, including management of early years settings and local authority work in support of young children.
