Access to College Year 2

Summary: 

Access to College Year 2 is aimed at young people who may need extra support in basic skills and need to develop their employability skills.  Classes are in groups of 10 to 12.

One year
Course Schedule: 
3 days a week, 9 am to 5 pm
Entry Requirements: 

Interview

Core Skills: 

Basic Skills in Literacy, Numeracy and IT
Independent living skills
City & Guilds NPTC Entry Level Skills for Working Life Award

Assessment: 

On going target setting and individual reviews
Portfolio assignments

Academic Progression: 

Learners may progress onto Progressions, Vocational Options or another City College course if appropriate.

Full Description: 

Access to College Year 2 offers learners the opportunity to explore vocational opportunities, develop independent living skills and basic skills.  The course will give you the chance to use and practice those skills you will need to succeed in your next step, for example:

  • Improving your basic skills 
  • Building confidence
  • Working alone and as part of a team
  • Support you in independent travel training
  • Improving life skills
  • Increasing your levels of Literacy and Numeracy

If appropriate you will be given the opportunity to go on a work placement to develop your employability skills.

You will also have the opportunity to achieve a nationally recognised qualification, a City & Guilds NPTC Entry Level Skiils for Working Life Award, and a Literacy and/or a Numeracy qualification.
