Extreme Sports Therapy Unit at the Forest of Dean Classic

City College Norwich’s Extreme Sports Therapy Unit, sponsored by Chain Reaction Cycles, was back on the road again for the Wheels in Wheels Forest of Dean Classic, on Sunday 5th May. 

Based at the Monmouth Showground and bathed in glorious sunshine on the banks of the magnificent River Wye, the scene was set for what was to be a cracking event.

Some 440 people set off between 8am and 9am to cover the 62 or 90 mile routes through the enchanting, and anything but flat, Forest of Dean.

Peter Jones Enterprise Academy students learn from Grant Thornton staff

It was back to the classroom for two employees from the Norwich office of business and financial advisers Grant Thornton when they visited a group of young entrepreneurs at City College Norwich’s Start-Up Lounge to offer an insight into what it’s really like to work with growing businesses.

Special guests see ‘Outstanding’ Foundation Learning in action

The Lord Mayor of Norwich and the Sheriff of Norwich were special guests at the recent official unveiling of the new kitchen for Foundation Learning students at City College Norwich.

The visit provided an opportunity for the Mayor and Sheriff to see first-hand why the College was awarded the highest Ofsted rating of ‘Outstanding’ for its work across the board for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities, including its pioneering work to develop enterprise and employability skills.

Pantrepreneur students promote “Pants idea for a good cause!”

Six Business with Enterprise students from City College Norwich, trading as Team VPL, are aiming to make it all the way to India by selling as many pairs of pants as they can in the national Pantrepreneur Challenge.

The students – Tom Noble (18), Sean Bolger (17), Wayne Mhizha (17), Will Brown (18), Alessia Pitcher (16) and James Ashpole (16) – earned the right to compete in the national competition, which is organised by Gazelle and ethical clothing company Pants to Poverty, by coming out on top in the college heat of the competition in March.

L'Art de la Coiffure showcases hairdressers' skills

NVQ and VRQ level 3 Hairdressing students from City College Norwich presented an afternoon of hair demonstrations and exhibition of their work when they hosted the L'Art de la Coiffure Hair Show on Monday 29th April.

The show, held in the StartUp Lounge, allowed students to exhibit their mood boards, photographs taken at Dunston Hall and hair creations inspired by fairy tale, vintage/retro and red carpet themes to their family and employers. Students also had the opportunity to show off their practical skills as they presented a range of hair demonstrations during the show.

Student successes in Norfolk and Waveney Building Apprentices Competition

Six students from City College Norwich won medals in the Norfolk and Waveney Building Apprentices Competition on Wednesday 24th April.

The competition brings together apprentices from the Carter Academy, City College Norwich, The College of West Anglia, and Great Yarmouth College to compete for honours in brickwork, carpentry and joinery, electrical installation, painting and decorating, and plumbing.

Topping out ceremony marks Creative Arts Building milestone

A key milestone in the construction of City College Norwich’s impressive new creative arts building – due to open for the 2013-14 academic year – was marked with a ‘topping out’ ceremony this week.

Principal Corrienne Peasgood, chief executive Dick Palmer and corporation chairman Matthew Colmer were given a tour of the building and helped to fasten flashing to the roof of the three-storey building.

The overall effectiveness, quality of teaching and learning, and effectiveness of leadership and management at City College Norwich have all been rated as ‘Good’ by Ofsted, following the recent inspection of the college from 18th to 22nd March 2013.

City College Norwich's Advice Shop are hosting a series of UCAS talks aimed at City College Norwich students who are looking to apply for a Higher Education course for 2014 entry. The sessions are being held in room C34 and will last for one hour with a short time for questions after the presentation.

The sessions will cover how to register and apply through UCAS, how to research Higher Education institutions and that all important personal statement advice.
