Staff complete the Three Peaks Challenge to raise money for student hardship fund

Twenty six staff from City College Norwich and Norfolk Educational Services have completed their Norwich to Norwich in 96 hours via the Three Peaks Challenge to raise money for the college’s Student Opportunities Fund. The marathon challenge saw them travelling over 1,200 miles and climbing over 11,000ft in just 90 hours.

Construction students to build scale replica of Barcelona tower

A group of construction students from City College Norwich will gain invaluable insights into key aspects of a major civil engineering project when they spend 4 days building a 1:3 scale replica of the Torre de Collserola that will stand 9m tall.

This exciting project, part of the Constructionarium initiative, involving students from an English FE College for the first time, will be carried out at the National Construction College on the CITB site at Bircham Newton, near Kings Lynn, from 6th to 9th May 2014.

Dance students praised for Sainsbury Centre performance

A group of the College’s Level 3 Dance students were recently invited to perform at the UEA Sainsbury Institute for Art in the Movement in Modernism event.

The evening of Modernist art and performance included art, dance, moving image and music and was curated by undergraduates from the School of Art History and World Art Studies at the UEA.
The Level 3 Dance students from City College Norwich performed several pieces throughout the night and also performed as statues around the space.

Emil moves a step closer to his Paralympics football goal

Sixteen year old City College Norwich student Emil Roger has taken a big step towards his ultimate goal of representing Team GB at football in the 2016 Paralympics after being signed to play for Tottenham Hotspur’s cerebral palsy team.

Students’ walking and cycling challenge for The Mental Health Foundation

Two groups of motor vehicle students from City College Norwich are getting on their bikes, and putting on their walking shoes, to raise funds for the Mental Health Foundation on 25 and 26 June.

The students and their lecturer Steve Smithurst will walk from the College to the Norfolk Showground, before cycling continuously on stationery bikes throughout two days of the Royal Norfolk Show, before walking back to City College Norwich.

Umbrella comes down as College’s oldest building makes way for new facility

A milestone in the transformation of City College Norwich’s campus was reached this week, with the removal of the Norfolk Building umbrella structure and the start of work to demolish the 1940s workshops which are the oldest buildings on the site.

The works are all part of the redevelopment of Broadland Drive – at the back of the Norwich Building – which will completely transform this part of the Ipswich Road campus.

Students set to light up the National Theatre after shining in lighting competition

Five Production Arts students from City College Norwich are set to light the exterior of the National Theatre during its 50th anniversary year after winning a competition hosted by Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance in London.

Extended Diploma Level 3 Production Arts students Chris Murphy, Harry Fabb, Emily Walters, Barney Vann-Rogers and Daniel Stothard will now work on a lighting design that will illuminate the National Theatre from 26th April to 2nd May,

Hairdressing student in running to become one of Wella's Up & Coming

Level 3 VRQ Diploma in Hairdressing  student Rebekah Snowling is in contention to be recognised as one of Wella's ‘Up and Coming’ as part of the nationwide Xposure competition. 

The Xposure competition sees student hopefuls first challenged with creating a commercial cut and colour, with photographs of their styles being evaluated by Wella’s judges.  Rebekah’s style (pictured on model Stevie Wright, who is on the same course) has made it into the top 80 in the country.

College returns to mains power - IT systems back to normal

Systems Update: 3 April. After being on generator power for 4 days, following Saturday’s power outage in the NR2 area, we are pleased to report that the college is back on mains power and all IT systems are working as normal.

Thank you for your patience in bearing with us over the last few days, especially when we were temporarily without some of our IT systems when the server had to be rebuilt following two power outages.
