Step Up

Step Up is an exciting two year course for pupils going into Year 10 in September. The Step Up course is fun and flexible, which means that you can work at your own pace in the subjects that you most enjoy. In Year 10 you can try up to three options, which are divided into short 12 week workshops and in Year 11 you will specialise in one of these. So if you change your mind about the workshop you have chosen in Year 10 it will not be long until you can change it to something completely different. We want you to have as many experiences as possible so that you can make the right choices for your future.

Increased Flexibility

The IF programme has a hugely successful track record and hundreds of 14-16 year olds in Norfolk have benefited from opportunities since it started in 2002.  IF is a great opportunity for you to learn practical, work-related skills for one day a week during Years 10 and 11. You will continue with your GCSEs at school for the rest of the week.

The course will give you a nationally recognised Level one or Level two qualification and give you the chance to study subjects not usually available in schools in a specialist, well-equipped environment. There are lots of courses available, from hairdressing to engineering –  Please select a link below for more information.

This programme will give you a head start over other students your age who join the College at 16, and gives you relevant skills in the sector you want to go into.

Many of our IF students carry on to Level two or three courses at City College Norwich when they leave school. They agreed that IF gave them the work-related skills and selfconfidence to allow them to be really successful.

The Diploma

We are very excited to be able to offer this new qualification. The Diploma will help you develop skills and experience that employers, universities and colleges value, and will help prepare you for wherever you want to go in life. For two days a week in Years 10 and 11, you will study a whole range of skills that are needed in life, such as teamwork and creative thinking, as well as relevant skills in your chosen industry. You will learn through an applied learning approach: a mixture of classroom lessons, practical training and work-experience.

The Diplomas are delivered in partnership with a range of 14-19 consortia across Norfolk. You will have the opportunity to study a Foundation (Level one) or Higher(Level two) Diploma in a wide range of industry sectors.

Please select a link below for more information on these courses. As a student on the Diploma you will continue to study your core National Curriculum subjects, including English, Maths, ICT and Science.

The Diploma does not mean that you have to go into a career in a specific sector.  A Diploma will give you a range of transferable skills.

Young Apprenticeship

The Young Apprenticeship (YA) programme is a challenging and exciting opportunity for able, well-motivated 14-16 year old students with a passion to develop their understanding and skills in a sector in which they have a genuine interest or career aspiration.

The projects and assignments are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands, and are designed to develop skills and understanding of the sector. You will also come into contact with new people and learning environments, and will gain valuable experience to help you think about life after school.

You will also have 50 days of real world work-related experiences, including work placements.

You will continue to study the core National Curriculum subjects, including English,Maths, ICT and Science, but for one day a week during Years 10 and 11, you will also pursue Level two qualifications in a vocational area. You will learn through a mixture of classroom lessons, practical training and work-experience.
